Today is an extremely important day, because today is the 7th yr anniversary of the devastating attack on our country.
On this day, 7 years ago, I was in the fourth grade. They were calling us down the the auditorium by grade levels to tell us that a plane had just crashed into one of the twin towers. My head was spinning with confusion, I couldn’t understand if it was on purpose or by accident. The principal finally explained to us that the crash was intentional, and was a serious attack against our country. I wasn’t sure what I was thinking at the time, but all I wanted to do was call my grandma and just talk to her, because she lived in New York. You see, my dad was out of the country and was supposed to return that night, and I couldn’t figure out if he was going to come home or not. I do get scared easily, and to think someone would want to attack our country, and the thought of how many people died truly scared me to death. And I knew the one person who could calm me down was my grandma, but the school wouldn’t permit me to use their phone to contact her. My heart was actually racing, and I didn’t know I could feel all that hurt as a 10 yr old. When I finally returned home, my mom had to go to work so I was home with my older sister. I kept wondering if that man who sent the terrorists was going to do something else, I was out of my mind scared. My sister called her friend Anthony over, so that I would feel safer. He stayed with us all night and watched movies, and for a few hours I forgot about what had happened.
I just wanted to know what drove this man to want to do such a hurtful thing to our country, but I’ve come to find over the years how unbelievably strong American’s truly are. We all pulled through one of the toughest days we will ever have to face. I applaud President Bush to this day, some people may think he isn’t a great president, but look what the effects of the one before him caused on our country. Since that day, he has kept our country safe, he will be looked upon as a hero in history as was Abe Lincoln. He did what had to be done after this tragic event. Us American’s have become stronger due to this tragic event, and my heart goes out to all those who lost their lives, victims, and rescuers. I realize what I just wrote may not have made sense, but that was how I remember this day. My heart still aches for the families and for our country on this day, but I know as each year goes by our country’s strength becomes greater as we come together to remember the lives of those who died, the victims, their families, and also the day that changed our country forever.
